## Iceland Diamond Beach and Glacier Lagoon

With its enormous and ancient icebergs breaking off from Vatnajökull glacier, this natural wonder of Iceland is a sight you absolutely cannot miss. 

The lagoon produces a feeling of incredible tranquillity as the 1000-1500 year old ice silently drifts into the lake and slowly melts away. The lagoon covers 18 square kilometres (7 square miles) and reaches more than 248 metres (814 ft) at its deepest point. **You may recognize the lagoon from scenes in Batman Begins, Tomb Raider and two James Bond movies.** 

We stop at the gorgeous Seljalandsfoss and Skógafoss waterfalls. Seljalandsfoss is part of the Seljandsá river, which has its origins in Eyjafjallajökull glacier. What makes Seljalandsfoss so famous and interesting is that you can walk behind it. We recommend you bring either a raincoat or a waterproof coat along if you want to walk behind it. Skógafoss, another famous Icelandic waterfall, is the starting point of the Fimmvörðuháls walk over to Þórsmörk. **The waterfall was also used in the films Thor: The Dark World and The Secret Life of Walter Mitty.**

We will also stop at Freysnes for dinner and Vík í Mýrdal where you can see the Reynisdrangar rock formations.

The Reykjanes peninsula is uniquely situated at the meeting point of two continents—the North American and Eurasian plates. Our adventure starts with a pickup in Reykjavík, and we’ll travel through some truly unique landscapes. Along the way, you’ll be treated to breathtaking views of rugged coastlines, volcanic craters, lakes and sweeping lava fields that showcase Iceland’s dramatic beauty.

Our first stop is Seltún, one of Iceland’s most iconic geothermal areas. Here, you can admire the boiling springs, mud pools and the colorful, steaming ground and feel nature’s raw power under your feet.

Next, we head to Fagradalsfjall Volcano, the youngest volcano in Iceland, where we’ll explore the dramatic lava fields left behind by its recent eruptions. While there’s no longer any flowing lava, the hardened landscape still tells an incredible story of nature’s raw power. The hike to the viewing point takes about 45 minutes one way, crossing terrain that looks almost extraterrestrial. Once there, our expert guide will provide fascinating insights into the geology of the area and stories from the time of the eruptions. After enjoying the views and taking photos, we’ll hike the same way back—another 45 minutes—making the total experience approximately 2 hours.

The total hiking distance is about 5.5 kilometers (approximately 3.4 miles). The path is well-maintained and easy to follow, but you can expect some moderately steep inclines as there’s an elevation gain of around 300 meters over two kilometers, making it a moderately steep incline. Changing weather and snow conditions can make the hike more challenging, but it’s suitable for anyone in good physical condition. Be sure to wear warm, comfortable, wind- and waterproof clothing, along with sturdy boots and hiking spikes to stay prepared.

After our invigorating hike at Fagradalsfjall, we’ll journey to the coastal town of **Grindavík**, a resilient fishing village that has faced and overcome the powerful forces of nature. Here, you'll witness firsthand how the town has adapted in the aftermath of recent volcanic eruptions. One striking highlight is the **rift** cutting through part of the town—a vivid reminder of the tectonic shifts that shape Iceland. Our guide will explain the fascinating science behind these formations and show you how the locals have reinforced Grindavík, including the **protective barrier** built to shield it from lava flows.

To cap off the experience, guests will have the opportunity to purchase a meal before we head back to Reykjavík. We recommend trying the traditional fish and chips, made from locally-caught seafood — a perfect way to end a day full of memories from Grindavík and the volcanic landscapes of Reykjanes.

### Where do we go to see the northern lights in Iceland?

Our experts decide where the best location is each night, so the exact route is not known in advance. One of the most important factors is that we avoid the city lights. Based on the weather and aurora forecast, we decide if it is worth going at all. If so, our experts will decide on the best place to go. 

### What to expect on your Northern Lights tour:

- It may be cold outside even though our buses are warm and comfortable. You will have plenty of time to take photos, so we recommend that you dress warmly and wear sturdy shoes. We recommend three layers: a cap, gloves, warm socks, and a warm jacket.
- Despite all our efforts, we cannot guarantee that you will see the aurora. If we do NOT see northern lights on the tour, passengers can rebook for another evening.
- A refund is not possible when we go on the tour and do not see the northern lights.
- Your rebook ticket is only valid for you; you can not assign your ticket to someone else.

- You will get some basic information from our guides on how to get the best pictures of the lights.

- Please note that looking for the aurora is a hunting tour. Civilisation is left behind (including conventional WCs) to increase our chances of seeing the aurora. Auroras are best seen outdoors at night in Iceland’s winter. Your well-being on the tour depends on your clothing.

- **Why was the tour cancelled tonight?** Every day, a team of experts considers the weather and aurora forecast to determine whether the conditions are favourable. If the odds are against the aurora being visible, we cancel the tour.

- **We did not see the lights on the tour yesterday and cannot join the tour again during our stay. Can we then have a refund?** If you were on the tour, a refund is not possible. - **How far away from the city are you going and where?** The average time heading out to the first stop is usually within an hour. The direction of the tour is decided shortly before departure and based on the weather forecast.

- **When is the best time of the year to see the lights?** From late August until mid-April.
- **Why do I not see the lights as in the photos?** The human eye usually sees the northern lights as faint colours of light green, grey and white. Camera sensors do not have our eye limitations as they have long exposure features and other factors.
